There are times when adorable Chis wearing adorable clothing show at our facebook page. Sometimes, pet owners get a bad rap because of the outfits. The most common response is that goes like this “Your pet isn’t the kind of person you can with” and “let pets be their dogs” as well as “my dog is not a fan of clothes and I’d never make her to wear clothes”.
These are all good points, but they’re not just to people who decide to dress their Chihuahuas in a fashion. There are a few legitimate reasons to dress your dog in a fashionable way. Contrary to what many believe it is not the case that all dogs dislike the idea. Some dogs are obsessed with getting dressed up. I’ve experienced this myself (not when I was with the Chi but my Chi however, but one of my large dogs).
The Reasons to buy clothes for Chihuahuas:
Warmth Chihuahuas are prone to getting cold very quickly. It’s an ideal idea to have some clothing or a sweater to wear in cold weather or in highly climate-controlled homes.
Protection Clothes are a great way to protect your paws from elements. It protects the skin from burning by the sun. Additionally, footwear and boots can shield their feet from scorching cement and sharp rocks, ice and glass, salt , or chemicals for deicing.
Cuteness There is no doubt about the adorableness of a tiny Chi girl dressed in a cute dress or a Chi boy who is stylish with a cute outfit. A lot of Chihuahuas are awestruck by the attention they receive from being so adorable in their outfits.
The Reasons Not to dress Your Chi:
The dog you have is terrified of dressing in clothes, and is completely freaked out whenever you attempt to put clothes on them.
Your dog can easily become overheated (usually not an issue for Chihuahuas).
So do I dress my Chihuahua Kilo? No and yes. We do own a handful of sweaters I throw on her whenever it gets too cold. She isn’t a fan but she’s warm. I’d like to dress her in cute little dresses, however she’s one of the dogs who really dislike dressing up so I try not to make it a priority.
If you want to answer the question “Does my Chihuahua require clothing?” the answer is entirely up to you. Chihuahuas, as small, cold-blooded creatures they are, need clothingat the very least to stay warm and cozy. The rest is dependent on both you and Chi.
