Are you feeling that your home could use a new appearance? I I do! There’s something that happens during this season that causes me to want to upgrade our home, however, I’m not sure if I want to completely remodel or invest a lot of dollars. I’ve discovered an interesting way to spice things up even when my creative side isn’t to be found. I’m thrilled to present it to you today. It’s about learning how to browse your home, take advantage of your existing items and dress it up in a different way.
This idea can give new life to older spaces and allow you to find yourself in love with your home again. There’s nothing better that decorating your house without spending a dime!
1. Explore your space
Begin by walking around your home and take a take a look around with a fresh perspective. You should really get yourself in the shopping mode and pretend that you’ve never even visited your home in the past. Take note of the things you like or find interesting and things that appeal to your heart and makes you feel happy whenever you look at them.
It could be a work of art such as a basket, light, piece furniture or a plant, some throws or pillows-anything that you are happy with. Consider other locations and ways you could make use of these home decor UK items.
2. Consider thinking outside (and within) the box
Be sure to check out cabinets and storage areas , and go through every room in your home. Even the garage (a fantastic spot to locate interesting pots for plants). You are never sure where you will discover hidden treasure!
When I was walking to my closet for decor within one of the guest bedrooms in the basement My eyes were drawn to this bamboo tray table that I had been using as a place to allow guests to store their other items.
I’d passed by this small table many times before, but one day it became apparent to my that it could have it in my upstairs living room and be able to see it and take pleasure in it.
It’s funny, I nearly didn’t take it upstairs since I did not want to ruin the appearance of my guestroom, despite the fact that the space is utilized for a couple of days every year. It’s obvious that I have to let myself explore the possibilities and think outside the box a bit more!
The bamboo table has been re-introduced across the entire house and I am a fan of the different ways to use it. It’s a good idea to consider, when you have spaces that are not utilized, instead of maintaining them in perfect state, complete with your finest furniture, decorations and art, grant yourself the right to “shop” in those rooms.
Move your preferred decor to the areas you use most often, so you will be able to see it and appreciate it on a an everyday basis.
This chair with the yellow accent is another piece I took in one guest bedroom. Now , I can take advantage of the bright color it adds to my work space. The gallery wall and the shelves above my desk change frequently, too, since I pull designs and decor from other areas of our house.
3. Mix it up
To create a unique mix take a look at things that are trending (to add some spice to your home) and classic items (for classic style). The aim of designing homes is create a the look of a well-curated, individual appearance.
Make sure you only buy things that you are drawn to, or like Marie Kondo would say, “things that make you smile.” This is how the design of our family room, below. I brought together my favourite pillows art, colors, and artwork and made an environment that is never failing to make me smile!
Things you may consider looking for while you shop for your new home:
art, frames, and photographs which can be used in a frame or as part of gallery wall collections. Artwork that isn’t always able to look great on its own is often a great addition to the gallery wall.

4. Find your own way to be inventive
Gather your items and play around with them in a variety of unique combinations and various locations to freshen up your home and give it an entirely new style. This is where the fun begins! I’m sure you’ll realize that it’s extremely enjoyable to freshen up your home using what your home already has.
Consider the way you live and what kinds of spaces are essential to you. Do you require a peaceful place to sit and meditate or a place to talk or a cozy corner for coffee or maybe a designated space for work?
This is the ideal opportunity to create the “moments” within your home, for instance through moving pieces of furniture around different rooms and utilizing the pieces in new ways.
We recently moved the sectional to the living room as we wanted an open and relaxed space in the summer and spring, when we love to let the patio doors open and create an outdoor/indoor area for people to gather.
As we discuss getting imaginative, here are a few tested and tried-and-true design tips:
Books and trays are the perfect base for decorative objects such as containers for candles, and even plants. Simply stack some books, or set down an elegant tray or flat basket, and then add the one (or three) ornamental objects on the top.
Combine items into groups of three, usually with three items that are taller or a shorter or more sculptural object and a horizontal one.
Edit This is a hard one for me since I’m constantly learning to edit until have the best style for each area (although I do tend to re-do and play with things afterward)
Balance soft and hard objects, and objects with diverse styles, colors, textures and styles.
Flip dark books to reveal pages with lighter colors
Layering certain things on top of other things and some to the side to give it more depth and make the room a more natural appearance.
Don’t be a slave to the cabinets in your kitchen to check if you have any intriguing bowls or vases available. They are a fantastic option to decorate your coffee table.
If you’re not sure you are unsure, plant a flower on it! Real or fake, they can add personality and color to any room. Orchids are one of the most loved plants of mine because they’re low-maintenance. When they’ve stopped blooming, their foliage is still beautiful.
The blue cabinet in our living room was once an unfinished black nightstand that was stored in our donation cupboard and was headed to be donated to Goodwill. To bring it back to life I gave it new layer of painting (with Valspar Indigo Streamer) and added fresh hardware (from Hobby Lobby), and it’s now one my most cherished pieces.
Don’t be scared to paint things you no longer find yourself drawn to. You may be surprised to discover that you like the same thing in a different hue!
5. Keep those positive vibes in the air
When you go through the interior of your property, you may realize how your taste has changed and you’re looking forward to an entirely new style and feel inside your home.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve witnessed my style change from a hint of contemporary farmhouse, to more light contemporary, modern coastal look. As I’m constantly evolving the way I design my home, who knows what I’ll end up enjoying next year?
When you begin to realize your personal style in decorating is the best moment to clear your home of clutter and dispose of or sell ornamental items and furniture that don’t speak to you.
Once you’ve identified what you truly love it’s much easier to get rid of anything that doesn’t match your current style.
Decorating your home within a budget can be a breeze when you’re willing imaginative and make use of the things you already have.
There’s no doubt that there’s nothing wrong with purchasing new items but you can find something in shopping at home that is so enjoyable.
I hope this easy trick can help you feel more joyful within your home and look at the world with fresh eyes. It’s what decorating or any creative activity should be about, constantly developing, changing and discovering new aspects about ourselves.
